PT Dua Jangkar Indonesia Crew Officially Joins Portuguese Fishing Fleet

PT Dua Jangkar Indonesia continues to expand its international partnerships in Europe. This time, our crew members have officially joined and commenced their contracts aboard commercial fishing vessels flying the Portuguese flag.

Portugal is renowned as a nation with one of the oldest and strongest maritime histories in the world. The placement of Indonesian crew members in this fleet is tangible proof that our seafarers are capable of adapting to the diverse and high-tech standards of the European fishing industry.

Below is an overview of the Portuguese fishing fleet where our crew will be operating.

Understanding the Modern Portuguese Fishing Fleet

While Portugal is historically famous for its exploration using Caravel ships, their current fishing fleet represents a highly advanced modern industry.

1. Diverse Vessels and Technology The Portuguese vessels where our crew work are sophisticated industrial ships. The fleet employs various fishing methods, including:

  • Trawlers: For large-scale bottom or midwater catches.
  • Purse Seiners: Effective for catching schools of pelagic fish.
  • Longliners: Using long fishing lines for selective targeting.

2. Key Catch Targets Fishery commodities are at the heart of Portuguese culture. Our crew will be involved in operations targeting high-value species such as Tuna, Sardines, and Red Snapper. However, the crown jewel of Portuguese fishery is the Cod, which is processed into Bacalhau (dried salted cod)—a staple food and culinary icon of the country.

3. Extensive Operational Areas Working in the Portuguese fleet means being prepared for long-distance voyages. These vessels often engage in Distant Water Fishing, operating in international waters ranging from the Northeast Atlantic (near Norway and Greenland) to the Central Atlantic (around Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau).

A Strong Maritime Heritage

The deployment of PT Dua Jangkar Indonesia’s crew here also means becoming part of a long-standing tradition. The spirit of exploration once led by the legendary Caravel ships—famous for their ability to sail against the wind—is now carried forward by this modern fleet as they traverse the world’s oceans for food security.

We are proud that PT Dua Jangkar Indonesia crew members are representing our nation in major Portuguese ports such as Matosinhos, Peniche, and Sines.
